What Not to Do After Self-Tanning? Part 1

Have you ever given up on self-tanner for fear of unsightly spots? Surely no one wants streaks on their skin before an important event or summer party. You can find a step-by-step guide on " How to Apply Self-Tanner " HERE . Today, we want to warn you against activities that can ruin your tan. What are they? Stay tuned!

How to avoid self-tanner streaks ?

Here are the 5 most important rules that will protect you from unsightly stains and streaks on your skin.

Invest in an application glove

If you want to ensure that you spreadyour tanning product evenly across your skin and that your resulting tan is streak-free, use an application mitt. This will give you more control over the product and prevent staining of your hands. Remember to apply the self-tanner to the mitt first, and then apply it to your skin—not the other way around!

Don't overdo the layers

Apply one thin layer of self-tanner , and add a few more (thin!) layers if necessary. However, don't overdo it – your skin won't absorb too much at once, and the product will start to cake. Also, remember that it's better to apply self-tanner several times in very thin layers than in one very thick layer. This will achieve a more natural and beautiful result.

Wait with the clothes

Don't get dressed immediately after applying self-tanner . You need to wait a few minutes for the product to dry and absorb into your skin. Then, wear loose clothing that doesn't cling tightly to your skin. Dressing immediately after applying self-tanner will result in unsightly streaks where the material came into contact with your skin. This can also result in stains on fabrics, which are often quite difficult to remove.

Do not bathe immediately after application

Don't bathe immediately after applying self-tanner . The product needs longer contact with the skin to develop your tan. The time required before bathing is usually specified on the back of each product packaging. It's a good idea to wait at least 4 to 6 hours. Only then should you wash the self-tanner off your skin.

Do not use moisturizing oils

Before applying self-tanner , it's a good idea to moisturize areas that are difficult to tan, such as elbows and knees. Avoid using any oils for this purpose. This will cause the product to spread unevenly across the skin. Your tan may also wear off much more quickly. It's best to use a regular lotion or moisturizer.

How to wash off self-tanner ?

If you're not happy with your tan, the easiest way is to exfoliate your skin. Choose a medium- to coarse-grained exfoliator to remove pigmented skin. You can also try rubbing your skin with lemon juice.
