What’s the difference between a bronzer and an accelerator?

Accelerators use ingredients such as tyrosine to enhance your skin’s natural tanning process. Bronzers provide added colour, either instantly (cosmetic) or gradually (DHA-based). Some products combine both for quicker, deeper tanning results.

Do your products protect tattoos?

Yes! Selected Onyx products contain ingredients that help preserve tattoo colour and prevent fading during tanning. Look for “Tattoo Protection”, “Ink Care”, or “Tattoo Care” on the product label.

Application & Longevity

How do I prepare my skin before tanning?

For the best, most even results, we recommend following these steps:

• Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate your body 24 hours before tanning to remove dead skin cells.
• Shave: Shave at least 24 hours before applying the product.
• Moisturise: Apply a light, oil-free moisturiser to dry areas such as elbows, knees, ankles, and hands immediately before tanning.

Can I use your tanning lotions in a sunbed?

Yes! Many of our products are specially formulated for use in indoor tanning beds. Always check the product label to ensure it’s suitable for your preferred tanning method.

Can I use indoor lotions outdoors in the sun?

We recommend using outdoor-specific products when sunbathing. Indoor lotions do not contain SPF and are not designed to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Always apply a separate sunscreen when tanning outdoors.

Do your products protect me from the sun?

No. Our products do not contain SPF unless explicitly stated. You must use a separate sunscreen to protect your skin from UV radiation.

How long does the tan last?

Tans developed with Onyx products typically last between 5 and 7 days, depending on your skin type and how well you care for your skin after tanning.

How can I make my tan last longer?

Daily moisturising is essential. Keeping your skin hydrated slows down the natural exfoliation process and helps your tan fade evenly. Avoid long, hot showers and excessive scrubbing.

Will your products stain my clothes or bedding?

Our bronzing lotions are designed to absorb quickly and fade evenly. While temporary cosmetic bronzers can transfer onto clothing before you shower, they are water-soluble and will wash out easily. We recommend allowing the product to dry completely before dressing or lying on light-coloured fabrics.
