What is Onyx?
Onyx is a body care brand offering tanning lotions, accelerators, bronzers, self-tanners and after-tan care products. Our formulas are designed to support a smooth, even-looking, naturally golden tan – both indoors and outdoors, when used alongside appropriate sun protection.
How do I choose the right product?
Accelerators support your skin’s natural tanning process. Bronzers add colour immediately or gradually, depending on whether they use cosmetic pigments or DHA. Many of our lotions combine both effects for a deeper, more multi-dimensional tan. Always check the product description to pick a formula suited to your skin type, tanning method and desired intensity.
Do your products help protect tattoos?
Selected Onyx products contain moisturising ingredients that help maintain the appearance of tattooed skin during tanning. Look for terms like “Tattoo Care” or “Ink Care” on the product page. These products support the skin in tattooed areas, but they do not replace sun protection or specialised aftercare.
Application & Longevity
How should I prepare my skin before tanning?
For the most even result, we recommend:
- Exfoliating 24 hours before tanning to remove dead skin cells,
- Shaving or waxing at least 24 hours prior,
- Moisturising dry areas (elbows, knees, ankles, hands) immediately before tanning.
Can I use your tanning lotions in a sunbed?
Yes. Many Onyx products are formulated for indoor tanning. Check the label and product description to confirm suitability.
Can indoor lotions be used outdoors?
We recommend using outdoor-specific tanning products when sunbathing. Indoor lotions usually do not contain SPF and do not protect the skin from UV radiation. Always apply a separate sunscreen with adequate SPF when exposed to sunlight.
Do your products contain SPF?
No. Unless explicitly stated, Onyx tanning lotions do not provide UV protection. Always use sunscreen when tanning outdoors.
How long does the tan last?
A tan achieved with Onyx products typically lasts 5–7 days, depending on skin type, lifestyle and aftercare.
How can I maintain my tan longer?
Hydration is key. Moisturised skin exfoliates more slowly, helping the tan fade more evenly. Avoid long, hot showers, chlorinated pools and harsh scrubbing, as these accelerate fading.
Will the products stain clothing or bedding?
Our bronzing lotions are designed to absorb quickly. Temporary cosmetic bronzers may transfer before your first rinse, especially onto light fabrics, but they are usually water-soluble. Allow the lotion to dry fully before dressing or lying on light-coloured textiles.
Safety & Ingredients
Will I turn orange?
No. Our formulas are created to support a natural-looking golden tan when used correctly. Results depend on application, preparation and skin type.
Do you offer sunless self-tanning products?
Yes. We offer DHA-based self-tanners that develop colour without UV exposure and are ideal for topping up your glow between tanning sessions.
Are the products suitable for sensitive skin?
Our formulas use skin-friendly ingredients, but no cosmetic product is guaranteed suitable for everyone. If you have sensitive or reactive skin, perform a patch test before first use and consult a dermatologist if needed.
Are your products cruelty-free?
Yes. Onyx products are not tested on animals.
Do your lotions contain parabens or sulphates?
Our formulas are free from parabens, SLS and SLES. You can find full INCI ingredient lists on each product page or product packaging.
Can tanning lotions be used during pregnancy?
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical supervision, please consult your healthcare provider before using tanning lotions or self-tanners.
